Queen Ethelburga's is a boarding and day school for girls situated between York and Harrogate. The Senior School caters for girls aged 11-18 and the Junior Department for boys and girls aged 2.5-11. The Junior Department is self-contained, but they also use the facilities such as science laboratories, computers and swimming pool. Over รบ12,000,000 has been spent on new facilities.
There are excellent facilities for academic, sporting and cultural activities. Music and Drama play a vital role in the school and girls take part in public speaking, debating, the choir and instrumental groups. Modern Science laboratories provide a stimulating environment for those interested in Science, while the French and German and Spanish departments each have a native speaker to help with the demands of more oral work and computer rooms provide all the requirements of information technology. Girls are prepared for all types of career, many going on to Universities or further education. There are opportunities for all sporting interests and girls are prepared for of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The College has its own equestrian centre where girls in the Sixth Form can study for the BHSAI examinations at Stages 1, 2 and 3.
The School belongs to ISCO (Independent Schools Careers Organisation) and provides work experience for older girls. Emphasis is placed throughout the school on identifying and developing the talents of each individual. Day girls are encouraged to join all activities and transport is provided from the surrounding areas.
